First outing for 15months

Post by Tony c » Wed May 29, 2019 10:51 am

Hi all, So I ventured out in my Ambassador on Monday to a little village show between Ormskirk and Preston, it’s our first outing in 15 months, I took the decision not to tax the car last year to work through the growing list of niggling jobs.
I only got through a handful before stupidly falling and dislocating my ankle and breaking my leg quite badly.
One of the jobs was to replace the failing o/s/f displacer, an easy job following instructions from Gasman, I took the opportunity to service/clean and paint the rest of the suspension/brake parts so it looks pretty smart now at least on that corner but more importantly the suspension now holds its height and travels soft and squidgy for the first time in the 12 years of ownership!.
The 60 mile round trip to the show was all but trouble free, the only problem was the choke cable snapped but that’s an easy fix, the car got many good comments, shone bright in the sun and stood out from the usual swamp of MG’s and Minors etc.
So hopefully many more miles to waft in comfort this year, taking the old girl out has reinvigorated my love for the car and laid to rest the thoughts of selling I had earlier this year.

Tony, it's great to see your lovely car back doing the rounds. I'm not sure you 'do' Facebook so I've pinched these from the Fb BL Fanatics page where someone spotted you at Cars & Coffee Liverpool. There were some incredibly positive comments; only 2 boring trolls of the order,' my dad had one of those. Worst car he ever had'...

The car looks fantastic:

What a beautiful car - it's a pity it has never been imported to France; otherwise, there would be many more survivors.

Hi Martin, thanks for your nice comments, My son did show me the pictures etc from that site, I always said I wouldn’t join FB but I think im going to have to as I feel I’m missing out on so much car stuff!.
I did get many positive comments at Liverpool in Sunday and I was parked with 3 other rare cars, a 1970’s Lada,a Datsun 100A and a Mk1 Volkswagen Passat. As we parked so close to the Water many people suggested we’d need a brush to take our cars home due to rapid rust...OH HOW WE LAUGHED!!!!!
