No good deed goes unpunished. Replaced the heater hose that had started to go spongey and after topping the coolant back up and making sure any air was bled out, went out and did my errands. Nothing untoward while out but I checked the fluids etc. when I got home and found the coolant was very low. ...

Got the two doors I'm repairing almost completely stripped down now. To get the glass out of the rear door you have to remove the quarter light, it's a bit of a faff. On inspecting the frame properly, all of the rot in this rear door seems to be caused by repairs over old rust that has simply rotted...

If you're bleeding on your own and don't have a vacuum type kit you can sometimes bleed it through by stick a hose on the bleed nipple, leaving it open, and sticking the other end of the hose in a jar of suitable fluid. This way, when you press the pedal the air comes out and only fluid can get suck...

I'll second replacing the clutch hose if you're getting no joy bleeding it through, a fairly straightforward job providing you can get the correct hose since there's several different lengths out there that all look identical until you get them next to the car.

I'll find out just how good the brakes are shortly, the Range Rover decided it wanted to cooperate today so the Princess is just waiting for me to collect her. The problem with the respray is that the body is going to need quite a lot of work to get a decent standard and that will push the price up....

Right then, these brakes. Princess started no bother as has become the norm, and we trundled over to the unit. Dismantling everything was actually surprisingly easy, in large part because Mike did that instead of me, but also because things weren't all rusted solid which made a very pleasant change....

You only need to use two of the pins on the one I linked, you can ignore the third. The difficult bit is figuring out how to hold it in place somewhere because of its shape. The tick is noticeable but discrete, like the old bimetallic type, just not quite as nice.

I don't mind the little personal touches so much, adds character, especially when it's a relative or friend that's done it. That blue is one of the best colours they put on the Princess. What's the round badge on the grille? It looks a bit like the centre from a series 2 car's wheel trim.

I'm always wary of new parts for just that sort of reason. This kit is supposedly British and Japanese parts, so here's hoping the quality control has been somewhat better.

That's why you can use the negative of the sticker as a masking template and then use paint for a more factory look. Or get a permanent marker and colour the black back in where it's missing ;)

Today the replacement parts arrived and fitted and the problem appears to have gone away by fitting a new float needle, seat, and the new float I'd swapped out for the old one. The old needle did look ever so slightly miscast when held up against the new one, but perfectly fine on its own. Time will...
