Bert Drenth’s Princess Restoration
Since February work on the project
has been a little bit slow but nevertheless steady. I put a lot of work into
drilling all the necessary holes in the body and the people at the paint shop
did a very nice job preparing the body for the final paint. However, this will still take quite some time because they have
to prepare the inside and underside of the car. The yellow coat on the
body is an etch primer to prevent the body from rust during its lifetime.
After this a wash primer will be applied.
At home I’m busy
in my spare time dismantling the donor car. This is a very nice adventure
because I reach all kinds of Princess areas where
I’ve never been before!
Update
March 2007.
Things
are still going strong, but everything takes a lot of time (which I haven’t
plenty of). Some highlights:
- I have dismantled the donor car completely
- The body is now in its final state of
preparation for painting (damask again), the guys in the body shop did a
very good job so far!
- At this moment lots of parts are being shot
blasted and painted to get an "as new" result. Of course I try
to use as many brand new parts as possible, including a new fuel tank,
new hydraulastic suspension balls, completely new braking system etc.
Only the parts I couldn't find new are being re-used
- The engine will be completely overhauled by
a local specialist (S & S Tuning). Strangely enough they found out
that the bore of the original engine was just 66 mm instead of 76 mm
(i.e. just 2.7 inch instead of 3.000 inch). Another engine I have does
have the right specifications so they will use that one
