Wimbledon
Wedge I have enjoyed looking at your website as it
has taken me back to when I owned a Princess. It was a 2200 HLS
"Wimbledon Special" automatic, initially used to ferry tennis stars
from their hotels to Wimbledon. I once saw a newsreel film showing Jimmy
Connors getting out of my car. The cars registration number was EOL
849V. The car was a buff colour, with a Brown Vinyl roof and Webastow
sunshine roof. It had factory fitted electric windows and "Special"
logos on the bodywork. The seats were buff coloured Velour plush cloth
with brown piping at the seams. Whilst I owned it was in immaculate
condition. I sold it to my nephew in Catford London and he used it as a
company car, unfortunately the company went bankrupt and the Bailiffs
seized the car, I lost contact with it after that. The only
problems I had with it were a fractured drive plate to the automatic
gearbox which occurred just after the warranty expired, a persistent oil leak
and Hydragas leak requiring a new unit, apart from those minor irritations it
was most reliable. I also
have all the brochures you show on the Web Site plus two others one for
the Norwegian Market and the other must have been one of the first
issued entitled "The new Morris 1800, 1800 HL and 2200 HL - The car
that's got it all together." I never
thought this car like the others with Hydragas suspension would survive
through lack of spares support, but I am glad that I appear to have
been proved wrong. Yours
sincerely, John

your Princess story. Email it to me and I’ll put
it on the site, and don’t forget the pictures! |
